Our concept for Parking Day was to provide a multimedia experience that connects downtown Providence to natural ecosystems starting to take hold at India Point Park. SHELLTERs are sculptural, aggregated, intertidal habitats improving water quality and restoring natural shorelines in the city. Visitors to our Parking Day site casted their own take-home concrete oyster tiles, built and aggregate their own shelters, visualize marine life and the tides occurring at the Park, and study living organisms growing on the tiles. We included the steel armatures, infographic posters, and take home literature and casting supplies. We built the exhibit and installed it in Downtown Providence in forty–eight hours with a budget of one hundred dollars.
